Bunyala Agri Industrial Park

Current Business Need
Bunyala Agri Industrial Park addresses the declining fish stocks in Lake Victoria and the rising cost of animal feed by transforming organic waste and fish industry by-products into high-protein Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) meal and organic frass fertilizer. Unlike conventional feeds that rely on diminishing and climate-sensitive soy, the company produces a cost-competitive, nutrient-rich alternative that accelerates growth in poultry and fish—reducing harvest times from 12 months to 6–7 months. The frass fertilizer restores soil health, suppresses pests, and costs only US$390 per hectare compared to US$854 for synthetic fertilizers. The model simultaneously reduces methane emissions, manages bio-waste, creates employment for youth and women, and supports food security in the Lake Victoria basin. They need $17,300 to intall larger machinery to scale up their production and serve the growing demand from farmers.
Bunyala Agri Industrial Park's five-year plan focuses on scaling production capacity and becoming the leading animal feed producer in Western Kenya. Key milestones include expanding BSFL colonies from 100 crates to 1,000 crates, increasing frass fertilizer output to 100 kg per day, and installing a dedicated production line for fish, poultry, and livestock feeds. The company will also commercialize its Lysis Technology, an enzymatic process that enhances nutrient bioavailability in aquaculture—and diversify into chitin extraction for biomedical applications. To achieve this, the company will aggregate production from youth and women groups, strengthen its working capital, and invest in machinery, storage, and logistics. The company is also pursuing KEBS certification and investor readiness to unlock larger-scale funding.
Bunyala Agri Industrial Park is a high-impact, climate-smart social enterprise operating in a market with no direct competitors in its vicinity and a projected global BSF market of US$2.57 billion by 2030 (CAGR 33.3%). The company offers a compelling investment opportunity in sustainable protein production, organic fertilizer, and circular waste management. With 120 fish cage farmers and a growing poultry cooperative already as customers, demand consistently exceeds current supply. The founder is a passionate, community-driven entrepreneur with a background in community development and a proven track record of training over 400 youth in agribusiness. By investing in Bunyala, donors and investors support a scalable business that reduces methane emissions, replaces soy and chemical fertilizers, creates jobs, and improves food security—while gaining early entry into a high-growth, import-substituting industry.
